This past month we¬†headed to Great Wold Lodge where I mainly focused on stepping back and marveling at just how big my biggest has become. I only captured a few short minutes of our fun because those water slides were calling my name, too! Plus I don’t think the middle was going to be patient about waiting to go on the slides any longer either! We couldn’t tear him or the biggest away. The littlest on the other hand, was not as wowed by the whole experience and wouldn’t dare to go any deeper than his knees.

Back in June, Tim’s grandma passed away, so we headed to North Carolina for a few days for her funeral. It was completely bittersweet. We got to gather with tons of family that we don’t get the chance to see. And we had the chance to run around and explore the barns and land. But it’s most likely the last time that my family will have a reason to be in that part of North Carolina and more specifically on that land. So I chose to document it. I documented my family exploring. I documented my boys playing with their cousins. I documented the land.

As much as we love living in Kansas City, we don’t live anywhere close to family. As a result, date nights/days for Tim and I are few and far between and usually only happen during family visits. The last time we had a date was back in January. So it was pretty awesome that his boss gave us tickets to the Royals game while my parents happened to be in town! I decided to take a break from focusing on documenting the kids and turned my attention to capturing my date with the most awesome guy ever!

This past month, I have been stuck in the house with lots of sickness being passed between the boys (pneumonia, flu, bronchitis, oh my!). I’ve been lacking some inspiration and wishing for a change of scenery. I figured that our spring break staycation would be just what I needed and this month’s 10 on 10 would be a story of all of the fun we had during the week. But every time I tried to select 10 images, it felt disjointed and mostly lacking the inspiration I thought this week would give me. It wasn’t until the last day of spring break that I found the inspiration I’ve been waiting for. Ironically, it came in the form of something that I see just about everyday: all of the reading positions my kindergartner cycles through for one book. Because it is one of those things that makes him so incredibly big and so incredibly little at the same time. Those are the moments I find myself desperately holding onto as of late.

I have been working hard to shoot technically strong images for my portfolio over the last few months in order to apply for BCpro. Well the day before I shot this set, I finally applied. The process of shooting for my portfolio kind of burnt me out, so I decided that I needed to get out and shoot whatever I wanted and however I wanted. And because we’ve been having some pretty awesome weather, I thought I would take the younger two on an impromptu trip to the park. And I spent the whole time not caring what rules I may be breaking as I composed my shots. It was all about playing with my boys and watching them do their thing, rather than hoping that I got a portfolio worthy shot. It was just the break I needed!

And after all that, I am super excited to announce that I was accepted as a BCpro!

Weekday afternoons used to be super quiet. The biggest would be at school and the younger two would be napping. But lately, they both have been boycotting their naps and are somehow still full of energy. So I decided to capture it one afternoon as they tore through everything in the dress up box.

When you are done here, be sure to check out Karen Osdieck Photography’s 10 on 10! And then keep following the circle around!
